Lon on the trail

This was a fishing trip to Marion Lake that Lon Carlson and I cooked up. We were determined to go despite a poor weather forecast, and arriving at an empty parking lot at the Marion Lake Trailhead seemed to emphasize that others may have put more faith in the forecast than we did. Despite a light rain we were quite comfortable hiking into Marion Lake. Arriving at the lake, a large bird took flight which at first glance I assumed was a Great Blue Heron, but as the bird doubled back overhead I head the unmistakable clatter (much to my surprise) of a Sand Hill Crane! Several Osprey and Bald Eagles were observed throughout our stay.

Lon fishing

Trolling damsel fly imitations with sinking wet lines proved effective, our largest struggle being with the weather which pelted us with rain and hail, while the wind kept us heavy into our oars.

dinner!

Three nice brookie up to 13 inches and a rainbow provided a nice fish dinner for my parents-in-law.
