Location Siltcoos Recreation Area Hike |
Where: Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area |
The Waxmyrtle Trail is a favorite of mine, and a perfect one for this time of year as the beach portion of it is closed during the summer to protect the nesting Snowy Plover. Joining Jeanette and I on this hike were Jane Wood and Trudy Wilkinson.

Waxmyrtle Trail Lots of ripe berries caught our attention. The Evergreen Huckleberries could use a little more time, but the Salal berries were perfect, in fact the best I have ever tasted.

|
sampling berries We enjoyed hiking through the forest, out through the estuary to the beach. With binoculars we were able to observe seals in the surf.

|
watching the seals Hiking back to the car we added a loop on the Lagoon Loop Trail to our day. Bird life is always good there and I got a good photo of a Great Blue Heron. |
