Common Name:Sapsucker, Red-naped
Scientific Name:Sphyrapicus nuchalis
Family:Picidae (Woodpeckers)
Area:Buckskin Mountain State Park, Arizona
Date:January 7, 2010

You might recognize this as a Sapsucker right away, but it will take close examination to determine it is a Red-naped Sapsucker. Notice how the red on the top is broken up with a black band, leaving a red 'nape' in the back.
