Location  South Fork Mountain Hike

Where:  Mt Hood National Forest

Betsy Belshaw led this Midweek Chemeketan Hike to South Fork Mountain, which was a new experience for everyone in the group as no one had hiked there before. Driving to Estacada we traveled up the Clackamas River, and then the Memaloose Road to the Memaloose Lake Trailhead.

The trail climbed up through old growth forest with wonderful habitat for mushrooms, and I was able to get good photos of Angle Wings and Bear's Head. When we arrived at Memaloose Lake the sun was just starting to make its appearance.

From Memaloose Lake we climbed on up the trail to the snow covered summit of South Fork Mountain, where we enjoyed lunch and views of Mt St Helens, Mt Rainer, Mt Adams and Mt Hood. The other peaks to the south were shrouded in clouds.
