Location  Neahkahnie Mountain Hike

Where:  Oswald West State Park

Weather forecasts again looked the best for the coast, so we selected a hike we had not done yet, the Oregon Coast Trail up Neahkahnie Mountain. The shortest route to the top of Neahkahnie Mountain is a 1.8-mile trail up the south side. Another option is the 2.5-mile trail from the north off of Highway 101. Wanting a longer hike, we choose to start from Oswald West State Park, a couple of miles further north.

Oswald West State Park Campground

Starting from the Day-use parking lot of Oswald West State Park, we crossed under the bridge and hiked along Short Sand Creek to the campground where a worker volunteered to take our photo.

Taking directions from the worker we found the Suspension bridge and took the Oregon Coast Trail 1.3 miles up to Highway 101, where crossing the Highway we continued up Neahkahnie Mountain 2.5 miles to its 1700 ft summit.

Hiking back we were treated to seeing a ship in Smugglers Cove, and after taking a side trip to Short Sands Beach enjoyed watching surfers in the setting sun of winter.
