| Location Nestucca Spit Hike |
| Where: Bob Straub State Park, Oregon Coast |
For this hike at Nestucca Spit we came up with the novel idea of biking to the trailhead. We were camped in our Safari TREK motor home at Thousand Trails just north of Pacific City, so we simply stuffed our hiking packs in our bike panniers, put on our hiking boots, and cycled the four miles to Bob Straub State Park.

| Jim at the park entrance At the parking lot we chained our bikes to the restrooms and headed for the beach. Bright sunshine, a cool ocean breeze and a low tide provided perfect hiking conditions. Sanderlings scurried over the sand searching for god knows what. Jeanette always concerned about the dollar couldn't stop collecting Sand Dollars.

| Jeanette collecting Sand Dollars We hiked to the end of the Spit where a group of Harbor Seals were piled on the sand. Turning north we followed the shoreline of Nestucca Bay watching crabbers and clammers. Looking at the map on the GPS we cut inland and intersected the horse trail that wound through the brush and shore pines back to the parking lot. Keeping a close watch on the GPS topo map gave us the information we needed to make the right turns at the many junctions.

| Jim thinks he has been successful in getting a Track I had carefully made waypoints as we went along, and it looked like I was going to have a perfect Track for the Trip, only to discover when I got home that I had no Track.
