Location  Lemolo Lake Trail Hike

Where:  Umpqua National Forest

One of the things that gets old about hiking a lot is the time that is spent driving to the trails. So, it was a real luxury for us, while camping at Lemolo Lake, to be able to just step out of our house, motor home in this case, and start hiking. It allowed us a very leisurely morning, with extra time over coffee, breakfast, packing lunch and so forth. It did seem rather odd though when we strolled away from camp, knowing we had the whole day ahead to enjoy hiking, and would be coming back to all the comforts of home, and not have to drive a single mile.

ready for a day of hiking

Walking out of our campsite at Inlet Campground, we crossed the bridge over the North Umpqua and caught the Lemolo Lake Trail. Right away we were impressed with the wildflowers; wild strawberry, spreading phlox, and blue violets matted the ground on either side of the trail. In a half a mile we came to the East Lemolo Campground, with a few campers. (We had Inlet Campground entirely to ourselves.)

It's early in the season and trail crews had not been through, so the nemesis of the day was crawling over downed trees. Buster of course had the advantage of having the option of going over or under.

We took our lunch break alongside bubbling Lake Creek, which flows from Diamond Lake to Lemolo Lake. On the return trip we did a bit of trail work, dragging what trees we could off of the trail. We always like to leave the trail better than we found it. Back at the motor home the rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing. It's nice to have all the comforts of home.
