Location  Fairview Creek Trail Survey

Where:  Cottage Grove District, Umpqua National Forest

The Fairview Creek Trail has several stream crossing so I have been postponing my trail survey to allow time for the water levels to drop. I have never hiked it nor know anyone that has, so wasn't sure what I would find. I did know that there were mining claims along the route, so wasn't sure if I might run into a situation similar to the movie Deliverance. Of course I did have Buster, my trusty trail scout, with me for protection. My fears were totally misplaced, I didn't see a soul and the trail is really quite lovely in its streamside route next to the creek.

This fallen cedar tree with its upturned rootwad is an example of the kind of thing I report on for these trail surveys. I don't have to do the work, just report the location, and then my boss, Melissa Swain of the Cottage Grove District, sends out a crew to do the work.

This trail kind of peters out some place between the two and a half to three mile mark, after three bridge crossing and three non-bridge crossing. It's a trail I highly recommend for anyone seeking a pristine natural setting.
