Location  Duffy Lake Fishing

Where:  Mt Jefferson Wilderness

Taking off in the middle of the week for an overnight backpack/fishing trip is what retirement is all about. One of the rewards is little to no competition for camping and fishing space. This trip was a continuation of my weekly effort this year to chase after the snow melt for the perfect time to fish a lake. Lon Carlson and I packed in our rafts and fishing gear as well as tents, sleeping bags, etc. into Duffy Lake for two days of fishing. As we left the trailhead and started up the 3 ½ miles to Duffy Lake, I thought I heard chain saws, then I realized it was mosquitoes! In spite of these pesky varmits we had an excellent trip with near perfect weather, beautiful scenery, and rainbows and brookies for our evening dinner and more in the morning to bring home. I was very pleased to find the B & B Complex Fire of last summer had pretty much left the lake to itself, only burning around Duffy Butte.
