Date: October 22, 2004 | Location Tahkenitch Creek Hike | Where: Siuslaw National Forest | This was a weekend escape with friends Ron & Bev Noble to the Oregon Coast. We had reservations for two nights in a yurt at Tugman State Park. Our drive over included stops at the New Morning Bakery in Corvallis, and a wonderful lunch in Yachats. It rained all the time we were driving, but miraculously stopped raining just as we arrived at the Tahkenitch Creek Trail, the destination for our first day's planned hike.
| | Tahkenitch Creek Relieved to be out of the car and stretching our legs, we found the trail a delight with a varied combination of forest, stream, and dunes. Evergreen Huckleberries were abundant in the thick forest areas and colorful Kinnikinnick and mushrooms, particularly Fly Amaninta, caught our attention on the ground.
| | Jeanette points out the sand dunes We made a four mile plus loop to the beach and back, and much to our surprise the rain stayed away the whole time.
