Location  Hawk Mountain Work Party

Where:  Mt Hood National Forest

On a previous hike to Hawk Mt on the sixteenth of last month I discovered a pile of rocks in the cabin that had been piled in a corner where the stove once stood. Obviously the handy-work of some brainless hooligans, in fact probably the same idiots who drove their quads up the trails to the cabin. My concern was that some similar thoughtless persons might try to use the pile of rocks as a fireplace. We rectified the situation on this hike by having an impromptu 'work party' and removed the rocks.

Those of you who follow my 'ramblings' closely know that I have been attempting to generate GPS enabled hikes for BACKBACKER magazine. BACKPACKER has entered into a partnership with Trimble Outdoors, using BLACKBERRY wireless PDAs supplied by NEXTEL. It's a fantastic concept to be able to upload and download wirelessly maps, routes, tracks and waypoints for hikes. However, I'm finding it quite a frustrating experience, with this trip being a prime example, a second attempt, and a failed one at that, to get a track loaded onto the Internet site.
