On our September 3 hike to Hawk Mountain; Ron Noble had come up with the idea of coming back for an overnight stay in the cabin during a full moon. He and I ended up coming back for this unique trip on a Sunday night, thinking our chances to have it empty would be better.

We were relieved to find the cabin un-occupied. Ron let me have the sagging spring cot, and we put the other mattress on the wood-box bench. We spread out our sleeping bags, had a celebratory toddy, ate dinner, and waited for the sun to go down.

The sun gave a faint color to Mt Jefferson, and by 8:30 the moon was up. I took several photos and then we went back inside to the warmth of the cabin, and read by lantern light. When nature called at 11:15 we went out again to marvel at Mt Jefferson in the moonlight.
