Location  Tahkenitch Creek Trail Hike

Where:  Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area

After Monday's good weather and hike, the next forecast for a dry day was Saturday, so we planned another hike. The forecast was right, and we did have glorious sunshine. Michael and Melissa Garguilo went with us again, and I picked the Tahkenitch Creek Trail for our hike.

We started out looking for birds, and saw a few, among them a Song Sparrow and some Varied Thrush but Tahkenitch Creek itself was for the most part devoid of waterfowl. It wasn't until we reached the beach that we got to see our high light of the day a Bald Eagle.

on the hunt

First we spotted the Eagle circling above the ocean, next thing we knew it dove and came up with an eel, which it carried off to the trees to presumably eat. Then we saw a second bird, which we believed to be an immature Bald Eagle head to the same group of trees, we imagined with the goal to be fed. In a short time the mature Eagle was out on the hunt once again.

We ended up adding to our bird list of the day; several American Crows, some Juncos, some Turkey Vultures, and a lone American Coot. Milage for the day was 6.5 miles
