Where: Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area |

Jeanette & Buster at the Trailhead With continuing tempatures in the mid 90s in Elkton we opted for spending the day at the coast hiking the Siltcoos Lake Trail. It's quite a different trail for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, in that there are no dunes or sand, only deep towering forest. In fact, the overhead canopy is so thick my GPS could not stay locked onto a satellite.

Douglas Squirrel Besides the little Douglas Squirrel shown on this Sita Spruce, we saw lots of busy Winter Wrens. This area was originally logged in the 1930s, and huge old stumps give silent witness to the size of the trees at that time.

Jeanette admires a giant old stump To be honest I have to report that the racket of noisy motorbikes driven by lawless idiots shattered the quietness of the day greatly marring our pristine experience. I am always disappointed to encounter people so thoughtless, with no regard for others or the natural world. |
